Wal-Mart has begun what it regards as a tasteful campaign to sell caskets on its Web site.

In an undercutting move, the big retailer has started offering caskets at prices that undermines funeral homes.

Wal-Mart began its sales pitch last week when it put the caskets and some urns on its Web site.

Prices range from $999 for models such as "Mom Remembered" up to the $3,199 "Sienna Bronze" container.

Most of the caskets inserted into the on-line catalogue are less than $2,000, which generally compares with Wal-Mart's competitor Costco, which also sells caskets on its site.
